Publicizing anti-doping rule violations plays a critical role in the prevention of doping and contributes to the credibility and integrity of sport. It sends a clear message to athletes, coaches and sports organizations that anti-doping rule violations will not be tolerated and will have serious consequences.

Today's decision by the ECJ makes it clear that Union law and national regulations must be strictly observed in this context. In accordance with these regulations, NADA Austria will continue to publish anti-doping violations.”
The publication of anti-doping violations must be accompanied by an appropriate balance between the protection of the privacy of the individuals concerned and the public interest in transparency and fairness. Taking into account all relevant legal and ethical aspects, it must be ensured that the rights of the data subjects are protected. The World Anti-Doping Code and the Austrian Federal Anti-Doping Law, for example, stipulate that violations by recreational athletes, minors or protected persons will not be published.
NADA Austria will closely examine the ECJ's written ruling and continue to work closely with its national and international partners to ensure that anti-doping measures are effectively enforced and the integrity of sport is protected.
