back CEADO welcomes WADAs decision on Russia

The members of the Central European Anti-Doping Organizations (CEADO) unanimously support the series of sanctions that WADA´s Executive Committee declared on the Russian sport system. The 4-year ban which prohibits Russia to participate in the upcoming Olympic and Paralympic Games in Tokyo and Beijing and in all World Championships organized by WADA Code signatories presents an important message for clean sport and the protection of clean athletes all around the world.

The findings of WADA´s intelligence and investigations department and the independent experts confirmed a systematic manipulation of data and fabrication of evidence that can not be tolerated. Therefore, CEADO welcomes WADA´s strict sanctions and the possibility for clean Russian athletes to participate in those international events which are covered by WADA’s sanctions.

As WADA confirmed during the press conference on Monday, December 9th, the next step must be to develop clear and transparent procedures and criteria on how to implement the sanctions, which athletes will be allowed to participate as neutral athletes and which events are concerned.

The CEADO members express their hopes that these sanctions together with a new generation of athletes and officials will lead to an attitude change within the Russian sports community. Once all the anti-doping requirements are met by Russia the goal for all sports people around the globe must be to welcome Russia back within the international sports family.
