Since the launch of this program at the Sydney Olympic Games in 2000, Independent Observer (IO) teams have made an invaluable contribution to strengthening athletes’ and the public’s trust in the implementation of anti-doping programs at the world’s most significant sporting events. The IO teams objectively and impartially monitor all stages of the process—from sample collection to results management—and after the competition, they publish a detailed report with recommendations for improving the system.
Over the past two decades, WADA’s IO programs have been present at more than 50 major international events, including the World Athletics Championships, the Mediterranean Games, the Commonwealth Games, the Tour de France, as well as the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
“I am proud and honored that the World Anti-Doping Agency has entrusted me with leading the team of independent observers at the Paralympic Games in Milan and Cortina. I see this appointment not only as a great personal recognition, but also as an acknowledgment of the CEADO Anti-Doping Agency of Serbia. I believe that this trust is the result of many years of dedicated work and professionalism from our team, as well as our clear commitment to ensuring that sport remains clean, fair, and uncompromising in terms of integrity and the protection of athletes.
Participating in the Paralympic Games in this role is both a challenge and a privilege—for me to work alongside colleagues from around the world and to ensure that the highest standards in the fight against doping are met. It is a responsibility, but also an inspiration to continue pushing boundaries and to leave a mark within the international community. I am confident that this experience will contribute to further strengthening Serbia’s and CEADO reputation on the global anti-doping map,” said Prof. Dr. Milica Vukašinović Vesić, Director of the Anti-Doping Agency of Serbia.
